Spring Projects

These are a few of the projects I have done this spring. The first is a grape arbor for theWentworths. It is a hexagon about 10 feet across Next is a woodshed. It is12 feet wide and 20' long. Next is the formwork for a garage I will build later for Doug Millar. The concrete has been poured now. Next is a gazebo for the high school 12x12 I worked with some students on it. There have been a few other things, but this is all I have pictures of. Dad

Projects

Kids:
Here is what I have been working at for the last few weeks. The first is a pair of black cherry night stands to go with the cherry dressers that used to belong to my parents. Also, finally, a headboard for our bed, also of black cherry. It has a raised panel in the middle. It is separate from the bed, and hangs on the wall on screws on a pair of metal plates with key holes in them. I think cherry is my favorite wood to work with now. It is nice to work, and I like the colour. I also like the way it mellows and darkens with time.

Mas Picturas

This is a tablecloth that was made by Mariana Valero. Actually it is two. They are to be used together. The bottom one is red and shows through spaces made in the top one. It is very festive and beautiful.
There is a chunk of a log out by the patio door that we used for a seat by our fire pit. When I put it up on the deck for the winter, Charlie adopted it as his roost. In fact, he prefers it to the comforts of the house. He spent the last three weeks outdoors, and mostly on the stump. Last night it rained and blew hard. Charlie was soaked to the skin, and refused several offers to come in. Finally, reluctantly he did. After getting dried off he wanted to go out, but we kept him in 'till this morning. He has spent most of the winter out there by his own choice.
My truck is equipped with signs now and I am ready for spring. I have windows and doors to install for customers, 3 decks, a grape arbour, metal roof to install and a garage if the customer can get the permit to build. I am confident that more work will come along by the time those things are done. Actually, I may have more work than I want already, as I plan to do some gardening this spring and would like a canoe trip or two. There aren't enough hours in the day, or days in a week. I will give people the option to get somebody else to do the work if I am not able to get to them quickly enough to suit.
Actually, for the most part I am keeping my truck off the road this winter. I had it out last week for the first time in a couple months. I don't want it to experience salt. I would like it to outlast me. I am enjoying working in the shop. I am putting the finishing touches on a pair of black cherry night stands and getting started on a headboard of the same material. I am very fortunate to have a warm and well equipt shop to pass the cold and wet days of winter in.
That is wood for the winter of 2012-13 behind the truck. Next year's is in the woodshed.
Life is good.

Cuarto por carpintero

I have recently finished working at a house I have been working on for 5 months. Since then I have been working in the carpentry shop. I made a rocking plane for my grandson, Austin. It is too cold for working out doors now.

Here is the recent snowstorm. Other than a bit of snow yesterday, it is the only real one we have had. The guage shows 40cm.

Winter

Enclosed are pictures of the recent snowstorm in Nova Scotia at our house. About 16 inches. It is melting now. We thought we had lost Charlie. He went out on the first day of the storm and we didn't see him for 3 days and 2 nights. He apparently crawled under the deck and got snowed in. There is a small hole that he uses to get under. At one point Debbie thought she heard him under the deck, so I dug out a hole to give him a way out. He didn't come out and we never heard him again. We put a bowl of food under and when we checked the next morning he had eaten some. He spent the next day, night and day playing wild animal in his lair, and finally came to the door wanting in on the evening of the 3rd day.
