Guayaquil 3
These pictures are still downtown by the waterfront, near the convergence of two big rivers to form the Guayas river. The third picture is in an area that is being renewed and made beautiful. It goes up the Montana Santa Anna (hill) to a lighthouse and rebuilt fort. At one time Pirates took it over and used it as a lookout. The beauty of the street is skin deep. Just on the other side it gets pretty tatty. Picture 4 was taken leaning over the fence. Typical of the houses all over the city great and small: makeshift chicken coops. A great way to recycle kitchen waste. When dawn breaks in Guayaquil, the crowing of roosters can be heard pretty well everywhere. Gotta love it. Pete
